William Henry Inness (1905-1999)

Born in 1905 in England, William Henry Innes was largely influenced by the 1920s growing up. At this time the careers of many burgeoning artists began to flourish, yet at the same time there was an atmosphere of solemnity following the horrors of the First World War.

Inness started his art career later in his life, he didn’t become a full time artist until after he served in the Second World War. But when Inness dedicated his life to art, he produced a large amount of work very quickly. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, New England Arts Club and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters during the 1960s and 1970s.

Inness experimented with oil and watercolor, but was most comfortable with pastels. He lived a relatively quiet life, painting and drawing mainly in the southern coast of England.

He passed away in 1999.
